 About Us

The Emirates Association of UK Alumni is a newly launched Association. Its purpose is to provide a contact point for people of all nationalities who have graduated with a recognised British degree issued by a UK institution or a relevant professional qualification and are now based in the United Arab Emirates.

The Association has two channels of operation:

  • This website, which enables one-to-one contact between alumni
  • Group events, open to all alumni or specific groups to provide opportunities for renewing and expanding your networks
The ongoing development of the Association will be driven by the preferences of its members. There will be regular online surveys to capture your views and suggestions or you can use the ‘Contact Us’ form to send through any ideas.

For more information about the Association, who can join and how to apply please refer to the FAQs below.

1- Who can join the Emirates Association of UK Alumni?

  • A recognised British degree issued by a UK institution
  • A British professional qualification issued by a UK body e.g. ACCA, CIM, etc
  • Graduated with a British qualification via distance-learning programmes outside of the UK

  • A’Level, GCSE or equivalent qualifications only

2- How do I join?

1. Before you apply for membership, please first check the eligibility criteria above.

2. Complete the online application form which asks for information about yourself, your qualifications and your preferences.

3. Within one month of completing and submitting the form you will need to send/fax/email a copy of your UK qualification to: UK Alumni Coordinator, British Council, Villa No. 7, Al Nasr Street, PO Box 46523, Abu Dhabi Fax: 02 666 4340 Email: alumni@ae.britishcouncil.org

4. Once the copy of your UK qualification has been received, and subject to your application being approved, you will receive an email with your account activation code. Follow the instructions in the email to activate your account.

5. Your application is now complete and you can begin to enjoy the benefits of being a member of the Emirates Association of UK Alumni!

3- What are the benefits of joining?

The Emirates Association of UK Alumni is a new association. The focus for the first year will be on developing networks, ours and yours. Registered members will have access to a range of exclusive events - opportunities for business, personal development and social networking.

Registered members also have access to restricted areas of the Association website. Currently, this enables one-to-one contact with other alumni. Shortly we’ll be adding a discussion forum and job board.

As a registered member of the Association, you will receive regular updates of interest to UK Alumni – upcoming events, relevant British Council activities (if you choose), training and development opportunities. We can alert you if your UK institution plans to open a UAE alumni group, or if there’s something happening in your locality which might be of interest and much, much more!

4- How much does membership cost?

Membership of the Emirates Association of UK Alumni is free!

Entry to some events will be charged on a cost recovery basis but we will endeavour to secure sponsorship where possible to keep costs to a minimum.

This ensures every member gets the best value for money – you only pay for the events that interest you.

5- How do I register for events?

All events of interest to UK Alumni will be advertised on this website, including public events, events organised by partner organisations and exclusive events for registered members of the Association.

All the details, including date, time, venue, charge (if any) and how to reserve your place will be provided for each event.

6- How is the Association managed?

The Emirates Association of UK Alumni has been set up as a joint effort between the British Council and a dedicated team of UK Alumni. During this initial period, the Association will be administered by the British Council with the advice and support of an Executive Committee, made up of the founding UK Alumni members.

In the future, it is planned that the Association will become entirely independent and there will be regular elections for positions on the Executive Committee.

The Association is proud to be supported by a number of high profile patrons. Please see the list above for details.

7- How can I get more involved?

We welcome support and suggestions from all members to help shape the Association into what you want it to be. Support could be from letting us know about an event you’d like other alumni to hear about, helping to organise an exclusive alumni networking event, or perhaps you’d like to provide advice for aspiring young students thinking about studying in the UK.

How ever you feel you can offer assistance, please do let us know!

8- What do I do if I move or my details change?

Once you have activated your account you will be able to log in to the website and access your ‘My Account’ page. Here you can update your details, add new qualifications or change your contact preferences.

In order to keep the member database up-to-date, you will be prompted to reactivate your account annually. This will be a simple link in an email which will renew your membership for the year ahead.
